How do our Social Insurance Centres (CPS) Function?
The National Social Insurance Fund (NSIF) of Cameroon has a total of 39 Centres spread throughout the country with the aim of bringing the services provided by the NSIF as close as possible to the users.
Placed under the authority of a Chief of Centre, Social Insurance Centres are the interface between the NSIF and users in various localities. As such, they are in charge of registering employers and workers, recovering contributions and paying various benefits.
Social Insurance Centres also defend the interests of the Institution while maintaining high standards of quality service. Where necessary, they are also expected to render account of the management of their various units, just as it is done at the level of the Head Office.
While all Social Insurance Centres have the same missions, two have specific functions. The Social Insurance Centres for the Informal Sector in Yaounde and Douala were specifically created to provide social security coverage for self-income earners and those in the informal sector.
Specifically, they are in charge of the Voluntary Insurance Scheme, a system that guarantees the provision of a benefit from the Old-Age, Invalidity and Death pension branch on the basis of a voluntary monthly contribution. The two Centres have the task of screening voluntarily insured persons, registering them and managing their individual accounts. This is an efficient system set up by the NSIF to offer the best of its services to insured persons wherever they may be, hence the slogan:
“You will never live alone”.
