

Detailed and useful general rules for social security beneficiaries of the National Social Security Fund (CNPS) of Cameroon:
1. Affiliation to the CNPS
All salaried workers in the private sector must be affiliated to the CNPS upon hiring. Self-employed workers can join voluntarily.
Required Documents. For affiliation, it is necessary to provide documents such as a birth certificate, an identity document, and a work certificate.
2. Social Security Contributions
Contribution Rates. Contributions are calculated as a percentage of gross salary (generally, the employer and employee contribute equally).
Payment Deadlines .Contributions must be paid monthly, no later than the 15th of the month following the work period.
Employer Responsibility .The employer is responsible for reporting and paying contributions. In case of non-payment, sanctions may be applied.
3. Rights of the Insured
Health Benefits. Insured persons are entitled to reimbursement of medical expenses, including consultations, medications, and hospitalizations.
Maternity Benefits: Pregnant women are entitled to benefits during maternity leave, provided they have contributed for a certain number of months.
Retirement Pensions. Insured persons are entitled to a retirement pension once they reach the legal age (usually 60) and have contributed for a minimum number of years.
Death Benefits. Beneficiaries may receive compensation in the event of the insured's death.
4. Obligations of the Insured
Insured persons must inform the CNPS of any change in circumstances (change of employment, death, change of address, etc.) within a reasonable time.
Accuracy of Information: It is essential to provide accurate information during registration and in all benefit applications.
5. Claim for Benefits
Claim Procedure .Insured persons must submit a formal claim to receive benefits, by completing the appropriate forms available at the CNPS or online.
Required Documents .Claims must be accompanied by supporting documents, such as medical certificates for sickness or maternity benefits.
6. Control and Verification
Right of Control . The CNPS reserves the right to verify the information provided by the insured to prevent abuse and fraud.
Control Visits. Visits may be carried out to ensure the existence and situation of the insured.
7. Data Confidentiality
The personal information of the insured is kept confidential and must not be disclosed without their consent, except in cases provided for by law.
8. Recourse in the Event of Dispute
Complaint Procedure: In the event of a dispute concerning rights or benefits, the insured may file a complaint with the CNPS, providing all the necessary elements for their file.
Mediation: The insured may also request the intervention of a mediator in the event of a persistent disagreement.
9. Employer Responsibility
Legal Obligations. Employers must comply with legal obligations regarding the reporting and payment of contributions for their employees.
Civil Liability: In the event of non-compliance, the employer may be held liable and face financial penalties.
10. Information and Awareness
Information Programs: The CNPS must inform and raise awareness among policyholders about their rights and obligations, as well as the procedures to follow to receive benefits.
Policyholders are encouraged to regularly consult the CNPS website or visit the agencies to stay informed of regulatory changes.
These general rules aim to guarantee effective social protection for all CNPS policyholders in Cameroon, while ensuring that the rights and obligations of each party are respected.
