“NSIF LITERARY CAFÉ”: “LES INFORTUNES” is the Novel Selected for the 8th Edition

The novel by Cameroonian writer Roger Etomo Zogo will be the centre of attraction at the most eagerly awaited monthly literary event in the cultural community on Thursday, the 3rd of April 2025.

The 8th Edition of the “NSIF Literary Café” will take place on Thursday, the 3rd of April 2025. This time, the featured author is Roger Etomo Zogo, a teacher by training and graduate of the Higher Teacher’s Training College in Yaounde (HTTC), originally from the Sa’a Subdivision in the Lékié Division of the Centre region. Currently an executive in the Ministry of Secondary Education, he has served as a teacher and then as an official in several secondary schools in the country. He is particularly interested in issues of ethics, governance and development. His writing is charming and enjoyable. It will be joy reading his book.

The author's selected work is “Les Infortunés”, a 187-page novel published in July 2022 by TIG. For Roger Etomo Zogo, “Les Infortunés” are leaders who have almost everything in common. Admittedly, each of them may have a singular life trajectory, but in reality, to give meaning to their existence, they have to become daily labourers. To get their heads above this muddy water, they have to fight all sorts of pitfalls: precariousness, promiscuity, vulgarity, illness, opprobrium, hatred, jealousy; in short, all sorts of frustrations and violence. Ultimately, their merit, through courage, endurance, self-sacrifice, bravery and resilience, is to rise to an honourable position in society.

The “NSIF Literary Café” is within the framework of the development of the Institution’s library activities and gives the literary community an opportunity to discuss subjects from our country and our continent that raise questions, debates, doubts or concerns. The event is also an opportunity to strengthen readers' commitment to exchange and debate, by developing their ethical and sensitive involvement in the profound transformation of their relationship with the world, with themselves and with others.

It will be an opportunity to plunge into the world of the author, whose work contributes to the moral rearmament of those who dare, despite persistent adversity.

NB: Copies of the novel will be available at the Communications Service from Monday, the 31st of March 2025.
