Medical Cooperation: NSIF, HGOPY Share Resources

This is the substance of the partnership Agreement signed on Tuesday, December 04, 2019 in Yaounde, between the National Social Insurance Fund and the Yaounde Gynaeco-obstetric and Pediatric Hospital (HGOPY).

Professor Angwafo III Fru Fobuzshi and Noël Alain Olivier Mekulu Mvondo Akame, respectively Directors General of HGOPY and NSIF on Tuesday, December 3, 2019, signed an agreement which makes both institutions partners in the health sector. A brief ceremony held in the Boardroom of the NSIF, in the presence of the representative of the Minister of Public Health, a powerful delegation from HGOPY and senior officials of the social security Institution of Cameroon.

This agreement is part of the expansion of the Essos Hospital Centre's healthcare offer, an objective contained in the 2018-2022 Strategic Plan and currently being implemented by the management team. This is not the first of its kind and the NSIF intends to continue sharing its resources with local health facilities in order to guarantee quality care for patients from all social strata. Areas of collaboration therefore concern: facilitating access to healthcare for patients in both hospital facilities, including the vulnerable; continuous training of personnel; promoting results of operational research for the purpose of national recommendations or publications in specialised journals, seminars, symposia and workshops; reducing medical evacuations and promoting efficient complementarity.

Through this collaboration, both Counterparts expressed the wish that such initiatives would multiply with and between other institutions, in order to provide quality medical services to populations. For the Director General of the NSIF, “This type of partnership is not only innovative but covers a rather enormous field of expertise for Cameroon because if it works as we hope it can be replicated by other institutions to the point of constituting a multi-institutional platform”, and to add: “All we are doing is to significantly improve the quality and time of care for our respective patients”.

This opinion was fully shared by the Director General of HGOPY, who did not fail to express his satisfaction after signing the agreement. “We are very honoured to be part of this collaboration with CHE and NSIF, which will enable us to combine our efforts. In this prism of complementarity, we will advocate the mobility of our specialists and therefore ensure the expertise of both institutions is available for all patients in both hospitals. Also, we will open up a field of collaboration with HGOPY's national and international partners and of course with those of the NSIF," he said.

In any case, this agreement, which is based on inter-hospital cooperation, will make it possible to improve the quality of diagnosis and care of patients, but above all for each institution to excel in its core field.
