Dr Mendane Ekobena Francine: An Unwavering Commitment to Endocrinology
A dedicated doctor, passionate teacher and committed researcher, her career has been marked by excellence and a constant concern to improve the quality of care for patients suffering from metabolic pathologies.
Francine Mendane began her medical career at the University of Health Sciences in Libreville, Gabon, where she obtained her Doctorate in General Medicine in 2006. On her return to Cameroon, she joined the NSIF and was posted to the Garoua Medico-Social Centre, where she worked as a general practitioner for two years. Thanks to her dedication and skills, she was awarded a NSIF scholarship in 2008 to specialise in Internal Medicine in Endocrinology at the Faculty of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences of the University of Yaounde 1. After six years of training, which included a further training period at the Kremlin-Bicêtre hospital in Paris, she obtained her Specialty Certificate in Endocrinology and joined the Essos Hospital Centre (CHE) in 2015.

Thanks to her professionalism, she was gradually promoted to positions of responsibility. Initially appointed Chief of the Emergency Unit at the CHE, in August 2023 she became Chief of Service in charge of Internal Medicine and Dietetics, thus consolidating her influence in the field of public health. Aware of the need for continuous learning and development of knowledge in Endocrinology, she became involved in university teaching in June 2020 at the Faculty of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences of the University of Yaounde 1. Through her contribution to scientific research, she obtained a Certificate in Obesity Medicine and Research Methodology. On the strength of several publications and scientific communications, she was promoted to Lecturer in 2022, and then to CAMES Lecturer in Endocrinology in 2024.
In addition to her work in hospitals and universities, the Endocrinologist is known for her commitment to the community. With the support of NSIF Top Management, she regularly organises free screening campaigns for diabetes, hypertension and obesity, reaching a wide audience. She also provides NSIF staff with information bulletins on metabolic and endocrine pathologies.
For Dr Mendane Ekobena, medicine should not be limited to a curative role. Her ambition is to advance the treatment of endocrine diseases, raise awareness on the stakes involved in prevention and strengthen the role of the NSIF in promoting public health. It's a mission she pursues with passion, for the well-being of patients and the reputation of the Essos Hospital Centre.
