INTERCLUB ATHLETICS MEETING: NSIF ATHLETICS MAKES A LEAP TOWARDS THE 2025 WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP

The National Social Insurance Fund athletics club achieved satisfactory results at the first meeting of the year, held at the Olembe stadium from the 15th to the 16th of February.

Around a hundred athletes from the NSIF club took part in the first meeting of the year, to showcase their performances in preparation for upcoming major events. The juniors competed in the women's and men's 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, 1,500m and 5,000m events and the high jump and shot put and discus throws. Though fierce, these contests were done in a friendly atmosphere and enabled them to give their best, in preparation for the selection process to represent the country in the senior world athletics championships. It was an opportunity for them to outdo themselves and take the best of their opponents' performances. There has been a marked improvement on the previous season, particularly in the 100m, where young Mayoumendam recorded a performance of 10.60, 2 thirds better than Nguema Allogho's performance (10.62) last season. In second place was Tsapzeu, who did less than Lele Idriss with a performance of 10.73, compared with 10.63 last season.

Some of them quickly understood the challenges and motivations of such a physical display and were able to stand out by reaching the podium. This was the case for young Toulla, Soudi and Ntoumba, who came 1st in the women's 400m hurdles, the men's 400m hurdles and the men's 110m hurdles respectively. In the men's high and triple jump disciplines this season, young Oyono dominated the competition, beating his record of 2.10m set in 2024 at this first 2025 meeting.

These are just some of the positive developments that will undoubtedly be rewarded with gold at the World Senior Athletics Games scheduled for 13-21 September 2025, thanks to the guidance of coaches Mekoua Jacket, Pempoura Michelle and Eric Ze, who are committed on a daily basis to turning these young athletes into sportsmen and women who will make history in their disciplines, and we must say that they are on the right track.

While waiting for the big competition, the NSIF athletes will continue their preparation gradually, at the next meetings scheduled as follows:

  • Douala 15 & 16 March 2025
  • Bafoussam 26 & 27 April 2025
  • Douala 17 & 18 May 2025
  • Yaounde 28 & 29 June 2025
  • Douala 26 & 27 July 2025

All our attention is focused on our children, who are also helping to raise the profile of the NSIF, by being eager to perform well. Good luck to them.
