6th EcoMatin Personality Award The Director General has been named as the winner
The award was presented to him on the 23rd of December 2024 at EcoMatin's head office in Tsinga by Emile Fidieck, the Publication Director who initiated the award, in the presence of the entire committee and network of previous winners.
This award marks the end of a wonderful year for the NSIF, full of commitment and success, but also of recognition. As usual, the EcoMatin Trophy ad hoc committee was keen to reward the achievements and innovations of the institution under the leadership of its Top Manager. Noël Alain Olivier MEKULU MVONDO AKAME is the "resilience choice" for this 6th edition 2023. The award is based on the results and performance achieved at the head of the public pension fund, as well as the quality of the investments made to ensure the company's financial equilibrium. The choice of this year's winner is therefore justified. It respects the main criteria of innovation as the basis for the selection and the impact of this innovation on the economy, the life of the company and the daily life of the social insured persons.
The award is the culmination of a series of measures taken by the Director General to facilitate the service provided to insured persons. These include facilitating the payment of social security contributions, strengthening controls, forging partnerships with other financial administrations, establishing the priority of social security debts over other public debts, reclassifying social security debts as priority debts and increasing social security contribution rates, as well as the 2018-2022 Strategic Plan. The architect of all these achievements was accompanied by his Technical Advisor in charge of Good Governance, the Director of Finance and Accounting, the Director of Audits and Internal Control, the Director of Information Systems and the chief of Communication Service.
He took the opportunity to thank the committee for its attention to a job well done, and also to announce the bright prospects for the coming years: "I am honoured to receive such an award from a media institution in the Cameroonian and African economic landscape. I'd like to congratulate my team who have enabled me to achieve these results, which we can all appreciate, but also to move forward and improve the management of the NSIF. My colleagues and I are delighted to receive this award, which distinguishes us and encourages us to go even further. It's true that we work in a limited environment and that we are sometimes forced to devote much more energy. Given all this, we have to be very fast in our ambitions and innovate regularly. With a prize like this, we can see it as an encouragement to keep going”, says this year's winner.
Commenting on his award about the impact of his reforms at the NSIF on the Cameroonian economy, he added: "I don't want to be judge and jury. But as far as we are concerned, when we initiated these reforms, we implemented them. We then evaluated the results, which we consider to be positive. In terms of the original objectives, I think they have had a great impact on society and the economy of Cameroon. I'm happy to tell you that our ambition is to go further than we have done so far, and that means first of all showing that we can continually improve services by continually reducing costs. That is our basic paradigm. We are the only social security fund in the world that improves the quality of its services and reduces its operating costs every year. Secondly, we want to change the way we think about social security. At the same time, we want to guarantee a quality service and play an important role in the national economy. We want to free up sufficient resources to create jobs, wealth and value. We are involved in some projects that I hope will succeed, but they are almost doomed to fail”, he says proudly.
Created in March 2018, the "EcoMatin Personality Prize" is an editorial award whose purpose is to award a symbolic trophy each year to a personality who is active in Cameroon and whose actions during the year have had a positive impact on the economic environment and the lives of citizens. The predecessors of this award are: In 2018, Dr. Fritz Ntone Ntone, Government Delegate to the Douala Urban Council. In 2019, Abbas Mahamat Tolli, former Governor of the BEAC, for the application of foreign exchange regulations in the CEMAC zone and the safeguarding of foreign exchange reserves; in 2020, Emmanuel De Tailly, former CEO of the SABC Group, for his proactive management of Covid-19 within the SABC; in 2021, Serge Yannick Nana, CEO of Financia Capital, for his plan to mobilise funds to save the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations from load shedding; and finally in 2022, Jean-Paul Fonkoua, Chairperson of Afriland First Bank, for his leadership in the banking sector.
Its initiator, Emile Fidieck, publishing director of the EcoMatin newspaper, took the same opportunity to offer his encouragement to the entire NSIF team: “We would like to emphasise the financial impact that Mr Noël Alain Olivier MEKULU MVONDO AKAME's action is having on the NSIF today. He hasn't emphasised it enough, but today the NSIF no longer pays its salaries solely from the profits of its financial investments... it's a great thing. He has set himself the challenge of providing Cameroon with a fund of 1,000 billion that can be mobilised immediately. As far as I know, he's not far off. He is to be congratulated. This award is a token of our gratitude. We brought him here to the newsroom to thank him. He's not our ambassador, he's not our partner, but he's an important economic player and tonight he's receiving our thanks. We hope it goes straight to his heart”.
2024 has ended in the most beautiful way, crowning discipline and commitment to work. Although the NSIF now has a greater financial impact on the national territory, it should be noted that it is not ready to stop.
