Match after match
The six-team tournament took place over two days. It was made up of two pools of 3 teams. The first day for the NSIF players was full of excitement. Their first match was a 1-all tie against SCB. It is at 4 p.m. that the NSIF, despite the morning's fatigue and the high temperatures at the Mundi stadium, qualified for the semi-finals by scoring 4 goals to 0 against Boukarou.
Sunday 18 February began with a 3-0 victory for the top team over Hilton Hotel. The score line sent the NSIF into the final, where they will be out for revenge against SCB. The two finalist teams met once again at 4.30 p.m. to contest first place in the Sport Elite 2024 tournament.
The two-time African golden ball winner kicked off the final, the former lion Albert Roger Milla. SCB opened the scoring in the 3rd minute of the first half, putting their opponents under pressure. In the 10th minute, the NSIF players, coached by their captain and Director General, equalised thanks to number 8 Mohamed Moctar Tachini. After the break, the team was reduced to 10 men following a foul by a defender which resulted in a red card. The SCB team took advantage of the numerical disadvantage to score their second goal and take the lead. At the end of added time, the final score was 3-1 in favour of the SCB team.
Speaking just before the presentation of the trophies, promoter Bill Tchato reflected on the objective of the tournament: "Just like the first edition, the companies had a great time at the Mundi complex this weekend. I want to take this opportunity to thank them for coming. The tournament aims to give the employees of these companies a chance to enjoy themselves, but above all to get together and enjoy a game of football. It is an occasion of relaxation away from the daily stress and pressure of work”.
At 7.30 p.m., the second edition of the Sport Elite tournament ended in a spirit of fair play.
