Inter-Company Championship Final: the NSIF Retains its Title!

The NSIF football team has won the championship for the second time consecutively. The coronation took place on Saturday the 30th of September 2023 at the Annex No.1 stadium of the Olembe complex.

Four goals to one (4-1) was the score line at the end of the football final between the NSIF and the Blue team. It took talent and, more importantly, experience to overcome a well-motivated opponent. As they left the dressing room, the NSIF football team looked serene, a sign of their experience with other major matches. From the kick-off, the NSIF, in full control of the game, looked for the breakthrough. For the first ten minutes, the Blue team saw nothing but stars.

The breakthrough came in the eleventh minute, when Michel Ngaffi, wearing jersey number 10, opened the scores. He beat the keeper to make it 1-0. With the ball in the centre, under pressure, Camtel lost the ball again and created two more chances on the counter-attack for the NSIF, who failed to add to their tally. The third attempt came in the 21st minute. The NSIF scored a second goal. The Blue team, in retaliation, tried to organise their game and had an opportunity to force a foul on the NSIF defender. They reduced the score from the penalty spot.

At the start of the second half, the NSIF team was in control of the match and created two clear-cut chances in the next five minutes. The final score was four goals to one (4-1).  The NSIF is the corporate champion and retains its coveted title. Ruthless in the match and throughout the competition. Five games, five wins, twenty-three goals scored and only three conceded - NSIF remains unbeatable.

After this fine performance, the captain of the NSIF team made no secret of his emotions: ‘We're delighted to have won this final, and more so, against a strong opponent, despite the score line, which seemed rather wide. They played very well and were lively. We used our experience to get the better of this team because when you play matches at this level, you end up understanding the tricks you need to win. The proof is that we scored the most goals when we were a man down. We did what we had to do, controlling the game and making the most of every opportunity”.

The joy and pride of a job well done could be seen on the faces of the players and NSIF staff, who had turned out in large numbers to support their team. While awaiting the presentation of the trophy, scheduled for the day of the inter-company cup final to follow, the Director General of the NSIF, captain, and leader of men, reassured his team in the dressing room about the second challenge awaiting them “I would like to congratulate us on this trophy and thank all our supporters for coming in such numbers. It was a great adventure, but it was only part of the journey. We still have to win the cup. We've won the league, but we'll have to follow it up with the cup”, affirmed Noël Alain Olivier Mekulu Mvondo Akame.

The Inter-company Cup is scheduled to kick off on the weekend of the 14th of October 2023. The NSIF team is determined to prepare for the tournament with renewed vigour, with the aim of making up for last season's quarter-final exit and achieving the historic double.
